Auger boring and dry bore for underground utilities, using steel casing pushed from a bore pit. A different method from horizontal directional drilling, chosen when the crossing, the pipe or the grade calls for it.
Jack and bore, also called auger boring, uses a boring machine set in a bore pit to push steel casing through the ground while a rotating auger inside the casing removes the soil. Dry bore means boring without drilling fluid.

The right method depends on soil, depth, length, pipe size and grade. We help you pick the one that fits the crossing.
An auger boring machine in a bore pit pushes steel casing through the ground while an auger removes the spoil. Typically used under roads and railroads, and for casings and grade-sensitive gravity lines such as sewer and storm drain. Learn more →
Boring without drilling fluid. Dry bore suits short crossings where ground conditions allow, and jobs where drilling fluid is unwanted. Learn more →
A steerable drill head follows a planned path, using drilling fluid, to install conduit and pipe under obstacles without open-cut trenching. How HDD works →
Review the crossing, locate existing utilities and set the line and grade.
Excavate and shore the launch pit and the receiving pit for the machine and casing.
The auger boring machine pushes steel casing forward while the auger removes the spoil.
Install the carrier pipe, conduit or gravity line through the casing and close out the pits.
